About This Spot

Stepping into Üsküdar Van Kahvaltı Salonu Cafe & Restaurant feels like entering a quietly familiar corner of Istanbul where time slows down just enough to savor the small, meaningful pleasures of a shared meal. Tucked away along Doğancılar Street in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood, this unpretentious spot hums with a gentle, welcoming energy that draws mainly locals who have long made it their breakfast ritual.

The atmosphere here is relaxed but lively in the best way — the sort of place where a clinking tea glass and soft conversation ripple softly beneath the midday sun. You’ll notice the genuine warmth from hosts who seem delighted to share a slice of their culture, explaining the origins and stories behind each dish with patient attentiveness. It’s a setting that invites you to linger without rush, letting the steady rhythm of the neighborhood settle around you.

What stands out most is the way the food arrives — not merely as a meal but as an experience woven from countless small details. Instead of hurried plates, breakfast unfolds as a generous spread, each item thoughtfully prepared and tasting of tradition: from freshly brewed tea served in familiar çay glasses to a variety of egg preparations and horn-shaped breads from the Van region in Eastern Turkey. The array is generous and meant to fill both table and stomach, encouraging shared bites and quiet moments of appreciation.

There’s a sense here that every plate has its own story, and it’s the hospitality that shapes the overall encounter. The balance between ingredient freshness, regional authenticity, and those tiny personal touches—a clean teapot, extra attentiveness to preferences—makes the experience resonate beyond the food itself. This is a neighborhood haven where visitors and locals alike come not just to eat, but to connect with a subtle yet profound part of Istanbul’s breakfast culture.

Amazing place for breakfast! Great service, very friendly hosts and reasonable price. We enjoyed the Turkish Breakfast and loved the variety of the dishes, would definitely recommend and will go again!

Food was okay, not the best quality though. They tried their best and we loved that. We had the menu for two and eggs wasn’t enough. Maybe you can buy extra. Loved the tea pot! Looked cleaned.

This place offers amazing Turkish breakfast. There is so much food that it’s impossible to eat with just 2 persons, everything tastes amazing, no tourists in here mostly locals.

First time experience of Turkish breakfast. We were brought here by our Turkish friend. This is a franchise of Turkish food and breakfast. Good place to have a full Turkish breakfast experience!

Best breakfast we had in Istanbul!! (or even ever?). „Van“ is a region in east Turkey, borderline to Iran. The Van Kahvalti restaurant has some local dishes from this region. (we needed to google a few things on the table and the waiter was so really nice to explain it to us). TRY THE BREAKFAST for 2 persons. We were absolutely spoiled about the various tiny dishes; all of them unique and very delicious! The service/waiter was friendly, welcoming and costumer-oriented at his best. Definitely our best finding so far in Istanbul and highly recommended!

We had a nice experience here with traditional breakfast /kahvaltı. Köy serpme kahvaltısı or Village spread breakfast is rather a brunch or a feast. The food is great. The service as well. As Turkish language students, we loved the atmosphere and small talk with the owners of this place. We recommend to arrive there at the first hours as the place gets full quickly, both by tourists as well as locals. A nice surprise was murtuğa, which goes well with tulum cheese or marmalade. Unfortunately menemen wasn't available, a Turkish classic for breakfast. Maybe you'll be luckier than us. Be aware that you can ask for additional eggs with sucuk (a spiced sausage) or wirh kavurma (fried meat) aa well as fresh orange juice. As from the pictures, quantities were more than enough for 5 people. Make sure to arrive there on an empty stomach. Teşekkür ederiz!
